Designer Raul Peñaranda Showcases the Inspirational Power of Hope with his Spring/Summer 2012 Women’s Ready-to-Wear Collection

(NEW YORK-SEPTEMBER 15, 2011) – Designer Raul Peñaranda has once again proven that he is a powerful fashion force on the rise. Peñaranda, who lives by the mantra “Dream-Vision-Reality,” presented his Spring/Summer 2012 Women’s Ready-to-Wear Collection Tuesday evening during New York Fashion Week.

Peñaranda’s stunning new collection, inspired by Hope, celebrates the beauty of the human spirit and brings to life the very essence of what has allowed Peñaranda’s dream and vision to become a reality. Through one-of-a-kind craftsmanship, Peñaranda uses silk lace, organza, crinkle chiffon, crochet, sequins, and silk jersey to create a uniquely avant-garde, yet wearable collection.\

Peñaranda’s innovative, sophisticated, and bold, yet soft and feminine, designs made for an exquisite runway show that captivated the crowd. In addition to Peñaranda’s beautiful designs, the show, which took place at New World Stages in Manhattan, featured live music by Vincenzo Luzzo, shoes by Tania Spinelli, accessories by Gorjana and hair/makeup by Camilo Vergara. The famous Brooklyn Cupcake provided a pyramid of delicious cupcakes for the after party.

Hope, the inspirational force behind Peñaranda’s collection, is the product of his unlikely rise to the top of New York’s fashion world. Peñaranda’s remarkable journey to the fashion forefront began in Cali, Colombia, where he was born. Seeking a better life and more opportunities for their children, his parents moved Peñaranda and his five siblings to Caracas, Venezuela when he was six years old. Peñaranda then moved his entire family to Miami in 1994 to escape the country’s growing political unrest, where he eventually became head concierge at South Beach’s famous Park Central Hotel.

With the dream of becoming a fashion designer, Peñaranda took a chance and moved to New York City in 2000. After showing his early designs and sketches to a team at Liz Claiborne, he was added to their technical design freelance team. Shortly thereafter, he was hired as an assistant designer at DKNY. Having no formal design training, Peñaranda would rely on his mother, an accomplished seamstress who made most of her children’s clothes-and now sews all the ruffles and other decorative accents for Raul’s designs-for advice about hems, inseams and front rises. Peñaranda eventually enrolled in courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons, and quickly rose through the design ranks working for such fashion powerhouses as Tommy Hilfiger and Oscar de la Renta. In addition to Peñaranda’s work for these famed designers, he has also worked as the director of trend forecasting for Kellwood, owner of such cutting-edge fashion brands as Vince and David Meister. Peñaranda’s ability to forecast future trends was apparent during last night’s runway show and will be an asset for many years to come.

Peñaranda’s lifelong dream became a reality in 2009, when he founded Raul Peñaranda LLC and launched his self-titled collection. Now in his third season, Peñaranda has found his stride and is ready to take the fashion world by storm.
